In Tehaleh, we love children with hungry minds. At our new school, Tehaleh Heights Elementary, home of the Trailblazers, outstanding teachers will be ready to feed them with projects and materials designed to pave the way for tomorrow’s innovators. The school is part of the Sumner School District, which is rated in the top 12 percent among all school districts statewide by SchoolDigger.com, and opened fall of 2018. Our school is located on 14 beautiful acres in the heart of our Tehaleh community. Nearby, our new 18-acre, Meadow Park will provide students with an inspiring outdoor learning space.
From the moment you and your children set eyes on our school, you will notice a difference. The school has been designed with state-of-the-art ergonomics in mind, which is why operable walls were installed between the multipurpose room, health and fitness center, and the music platform. This will allow extra seating for large events. Throughout the school, indoor and outdoor spaces were created for hands-on learning. At Tehaleh Heights Elementary, our excellent academic environment will help the children in our community reach new heights.

See what everyone loves about Tehaleh Heights Elementary
In Tehaleh, we never cut corners. We emphasize family within our community, which is why we understand the importance of nurturing our children and offering the best education available.
Tehaleh has been growing steadily, with 300 new homes each year. There are nearly 3,000 people living in our community, and as we continue to grow, there will be more to come.
As our community continues to grow, we recognized the need for a new elementary school, in addition to the award-winning Donald Eismann Elementary. We planned ahead so that all the needs of our Tehaleh students would be met. The new Tehaleh Heights Elementary will be the Sumner School District’s ninth elementary school, and the first with two stories. The school has been designed with our children in mind. Like Donald Eismann Elementary, it incorporates the latest technology, hands-on learning facilities, and an environment that is amenable to a STEM-focused culture of exploration and growth. This unique combination is intended to encourage our students to become the leaders and influencers of the future.
One of the focal ideas influencing the design of the new Tehaleh Heights Elementary is the creation of a STEM-focused culture. Our STEM curriculum is specially designed to help students integrate knowledge from Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics and to connect them to non-STEM disciplines. Our classes focus on the foundational ideas and skills which are critical to future careers in targeted subjects. They aim to nurture and challenge students into developing creative thinking and problem-solving skills. Students will also be encouraged to work and learn independently and in collaboration with their peers, enabling them to garner useful interpersonal skills.
At Tehaleh Heights Elementary, the STEM learning area is located in a central part of the school and is designed to engage the minds and imaginations of students of varied academic backgrounds. The corridor leading to the classrooms has been designed to feature an array of STEM displays and interactive learning opportunities. The building itself is designed to be used as a teaching tool with exposed beams and mechanical systems. The STEM learning space also opens onto a STEM courtyard facing the local wetlands to allow our young pioneers to interact with and learn from nature through performance-based tasks.
The naming of the new school was a genuine community effort as the Sumner School District invited students, families, and community members to bring their ideas to the table. With the submission of more than 2,800 suggestions, the school board and the 12-person committee narrowed the list down to a few options, but there was a clear winner: Tehaleh Heights. Inspired by the surrounding natural beauty and the people, the committee wanted to honor the Tehaleh community and the new name does just that and more. Tehaleh Heights combines the meaning “high ground” with educational elements such as:
• Ascending pathway towards student success
• Envisioning and believing in oneself
• Striving for excellence
• Maintaining a sense of community and involvement

Five additional onsite schools (serving kindergarten through 12th grade) have been planned for the community.
We’ve called Tehaleh home for four years and we feel honored to see the community grow. It seems like every year, the number of kids in the neighborhood doubles!
“My favorite part of school at Donald Eismann [Elementary] is my teacher, Mr. Browning." Ethan, 11. "My favorite part [of school] is lunch!" Boedy, 8.
We came to Tehaleh three or four times and fell more in love with it every time. We've lived here for about two months now and we enjoy taking our children to Big Sky Park—they love the zip line!
