The South Sound Lights Up the Night!
What would the holidays be without twinkling lights? Red and green bulbs flashing against a winter night sky, warm jackets pulled tighter, hands held and the tingly feeling that maybe magic does exist in the world. We’ve compiled a few of our favorite sparkling traditions below and whether you want a night spent strolling in the brisk winter air or a leisurely drive in the cozy comfort of your car, The South Sound puts the “wonder” in the most wonderful time of the year.
Point Defiance Zoolights - Celebrate the 30th anniversary of Puget Sound’s longest running holiday lights display. Visitors will be dazzled by an oceanic theme, featuring more than 700,000 LED lights. Among the standouts are a 23-foot-tall replica of Mt. Rainier, the twin Narrows Bridges and a Seahawks Zone. Curious? Here’s a little sneak peek!
The Gig Harbor Lighted Boat Parade – If you’re craving a little maritime during this “merry time” (see what we did there? :p), head out to the waterfront at Gig Harbor. The Gig Harbor Yacht Club has hosted The Lighted Boat Parade for more than 50 years. Typically, you can count on a spirited mix of yachts, fishing vessels and even kayakers participating in the fun. Best of all…it’s free!
Pierce County Parks and Recreation - Not feeling like braving the chilly weather? Then the 24th annual Fantasy Lights at Spanaway Park might be for you! Billed as the largest holiday drive-through display in the Northwest, this beautiful two-mile drive along Spanaway Lake features nearly 300 elaborate displays and thousands of twinkling lights. There’s even a custom radio station playing holiday tunes to accompany you on the tour!
A Little Further but Worth the Drive
Kent Very Merry Christmas House - Enjoy over 50,000 cheerful, holiday lights and decorations, synchronized to music, at the Very Merry Christmas House of Lights! The general public is encouraged to bring canned food donations which will help benefit the Black Diamond Senior Center and Food Bank. Check out some past years here!
Woodinville Wonderland - If you’re looking for a real life version of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, you will be impressed with the enormous amount of lights on display at the Woodinville Wonderland home – a clever blend of tradition and technology set against an outdoor, rural backdrop. Bundle up, grab a hot chocolate to go and enjoy the free animated show.
