Tehaleh Teen Bakes Sweet Treats for Neighbors
There’s a delicious aroma wafting around Tehaleh on weekend mornings – neighbors says it’s enough to get your stomach growling. Fifteen-year-old Alexis S., Tehaleh’s de facto Cinnamon Roll Baker Extraordinaire, has been making and delivering sweet treats to customers in the tight-knit community for a few months now, and the response has been overwhelming.
“I am so surprised by the reception – I really appreciate my neighbors supporting me,” says Alexis.
She hopes to make enough money to buy a car, then to save enough through baking and babysitting to attend Harvard University’s pre-college summer program. “I have big goals,” she says. “I want to go to college at Harvard and study criminal law. My parents have always told us that if we want something, we have to work hard for it.”
A sophomore in high school, Serrano took a culinary class her freshman year, where she discovered a knack for baking. With an entrepreneurial spirit and a neighborly heart, she thought the Tehaleh community might enjoy a warm, tasty treat on the weekends. Alongside her father, Alexis began posting order information every Wednesday in the resident Facebook group so that neighbors could schedule a weekend delivery.
Although Alexis often stays up late in the night to prepare the dough, and wakes up before the break of dawn to bake, she believes this is a fun and worthwhile project.
Her neighbors couldn’t agree more. “To have cinnamon rolls freshly baked and delivered to your door is the perfect way to start a weekend morning,” said Tehaleh resident, Tiffany R. “They’re the best cinnamon rolls I’ve ever had and it feels great to help a young lady in our neighborhood save up to reach her goals!”
Those looking to join the neighborhood can choose from a diverse collection of new homes with architectural styles and floor plans designed for every family size and lifestyle, starting from the low $300,000s. Click here to start your search now.
